Malt-O-Meal® Varieties Among Top Cereals

Posted by Malt-O-Meal on September 2nd 2004 in News Archive

Malt-O-Meal shows a 33 percent increase in household cereal consumption

The latest market data is evidence of the growth and competitiveness of Minneapolis-based Malt-O-Meal® Company and consumer appeal of its 22 varieties of ready-to-eat cereals.

Based on pounds of consumption from ACNielsen data*, Malt-O-Meal’s top flavors are becoming major contenders in the national RTE cereal category with six varieties among the top 50 brands. The top 50 cereal brands are power players and essentials for retailers. These brands, as determined by ACNielsen (often flavors of a cereal are grouped together as one brand), include some of the most familiar names in the cereal aisle.

”Malt-O-Meal® cereals have the great taste and nutrition that consumers expect plus the value that national competitive brands can’t offer,” said Rick Shea, Vice President of Marketing. ”The benefits are resonating with consumers. They’re giving us a try and they’re coming back.”

Malt-O-Meal’s top-performing brands and rankings include Frosted Mini Spooners® (24), Golden Puffs® (31), Tootie Fruities® (37), Marshmallow Mateys® (38), Toasted Cinnamon Twists™ (41), and Honey Nut Toasty O’s® (47) cereals.

The market data includes total U.S. grocery scanner data and Wal-Mart Super Center panel data for 24 weeks ending August 7, 2004. Together these represent over 80 percent of the consumer market.

Founded in 1919, the Malt-O-Meal® Company is privately held and headquartered in the IDS Center in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Malt-O-Meal®, the nation’s fifth largest cereal manufacturer, supplies a full line of branded cereals and private label cereals to the grocery industry. The company currently produces twenty-two different ready-to-eat cereals, three varieties of Malt-O-Meal® Hot Wheat cereal, and a full line of oatmeal products. The company currently operates two production facilities in Minnesota and one in Utah, and has three distribution centers around the U.S.

Hello! We buy Malt O Meal from time to time. The one we like the best was called Cinnamon Golden Puffs or something like that. Walmart doesn’t seem to carry it any more. Can you tell me who does? Please.

    Thanks!
